FG to Extend Rail Link to Lagos Airport Terminals

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced plans to extend the existing Lagos rail network to connect directly to the domestic and international terminals of Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA). Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo disclosed this initiative on Monday during the opening ceremony of the Invest Lagos 3.0 event organized by the Lagos State Government.

The project aims to strengthen Lagos's position as a leading aviation hub in Africa. The proposed rail extension will link the existing rail line to the Ikeja bus stop, facilitating direct access to the airport.

Keyamo noted that Lagos handles 67% of the total air passenger traffic in Nigeria, underscoring its strategic importance. The Lagos State Government is also working on extending the rail line to the local wing of the airport.

Additionally, Keyamo mentioned a $500 million commitment from President Bola Tinubu's administration to modernize the nearly 50-year-old airport facilities to accommodate increasing passenger and cargo traffic.
