Grammy Awards to Implement Major Rule Changes by 2027

The Recording Academy has announced updates to the Grammy Awards rules, set to take effect for the 69th ceremony scheduled for February 7, 2027. Key changes include the eligibility for Best New Artist, which will now allow artists to submit for this category a maximum of four times throughout their careers, up from three.

This adjustment aims to support artists who build their careers over several years without being locked into a single category. Additionally, the Academy will expand its category list to better reflect the current music landscape, introducing new categories that cover K-pop, J-pop, C-pop, and Asian pop.

The previous single R&B performance category will be split into solo and collaborative performances, with the latter being renamed. Furthermore, the folk music category will be divided into heritage folk and contemporary folk, with the latter being recognized as the Best Contemporary Folk Album.

These changes are designed to enhance recognition for songwriters, regardless of their performance status.
