Valentino Garavani, Iconic Designer, Passes at 93

Valentino Garavani, renowned as the ‘Last Emperor’ of fashion, passed away on January 19 at the age of 93 near Rome. His illustrious career began in Voghera in 1932, and he learned the craft in Paris under Jean Dessès and Guy Laroche.

Valentino revolutionized the fashion world with his elegant designs, particularly known for the signature Valentino red, a vibrant mix of colors that became synonymous with power and passion. His partnership with Giancarlo Giammetti helped establish Valentino as a modern luxury brand.

After retiring in 2008, Pierpaolo Piccioli took over as creative director, maintaining Valentino's legacy while adapting to modern inclusivity. In 2024, Alessandro Michele succeeded Piccioli, introducing a maximalist approach that diverged from Valentino's classic style.
