Gadzama Challenges LPDC Decision in Federal High Court

Chief J-K. Gadzama, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has filed proceedings at the Federal High Court to challenge the decision of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).

The court has granted him leave to pursue a judicial review of the LPDC's decision, which raises concerns about the legality of the disciplinary process and the absence of an effective appellate mechanism for legal practitioners. Gadzama's application seeks the court's examination under its supervisory jurisdiction to determine if a disciplinary decision can be enforced without an avenue for appeal.

He argues that the current legal framework undermines access to justice, fair hearing, and the rule of law. The application also critiques the LPDC's procedures, including evidence evaluation and procedural fairness.

Gadzama asserts that the underlying dispute did not involve allegations of fraud or harm to a client and that the evidence supporting his position was inadequately assessed. The Federal High Court's approval allows him to continue practicing while seeking relief regarding the LPDC's findings and the constitutional validity of the disciplinary sanctions.
