NDLEA Destroys 12.2 Tonnes of Illicit Drugs in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a significant operation in Kano State, destroying 12.2 tonnes of illicit drugs, including 7,799.314 kg of cannabis sativa and 2,781.153 kg of psychotropic substances. The exercise, led by CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, aimed to dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect community health.

In total, 12,233.946 kg of drugs were seized, with 904 suspects arrested, comprising 869 males and 35 females. The NDLEA's chairman, Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa, emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating drug abuse and announced the establishment of a pharmaceutical society to regulate legitimate drug supplies.

He also called for support from the Kano State government, represented by Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to tackle drug-related crimes effectively. The operation reflects a broader commitment to addressing the drug crisis in Nigeria, with ongoing efforts to rehabilitate former cannabis farmers and prevent drug abuse in educational institutions.
