Peter Obi Claims Assassination Plot Ahead of Benue Visit

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming April 2025 elections, alleged that there was a plan to assassinate him during his intended visit to Benue State. Obi made these allegations while participating in a high-level roundtable discussion themed "Nigeria 2027 and Beyond," organized by the European Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, Germany.

Following his claims, the Benue State government issued a cautionary statement advising against his trip, expressing disappointment over the proposed visit. Obi indicated that he was unaware of the governor's stance and suggested that there were already attempts on his life, referencing a previous shootout when he tried to visit the area.

He emphasized that if there was a plan to assassinate him, it should not be taken lightly.
