Kaduna State Government Boosts Agriculture and Food Security

Under the leadership of Sen. Uba Sani, the Kaduna state government has implemented the Kaduna Peace Model, recovering over 500,000 hectares of farmland previously controlled by bandits. This initiative has allowed farmers to return to their fields, reopening schools and healthcare centers, thereby enhancing food security.

Agriculture contributes approximately 42% to Kaduna's GDP, and with the recovery of farmland, about 60% of farmers are now engaged in farming activities. The state’s agricultural budget has seen a substantial increase from N1.48 billion in 2023 to over N100 billion in 2026.

This funding has facilitated the distribution of 500 trucks of NPT and urea fertilizer to 150,000 smallholder farmers at no cost, significantly boosting crop yields. The administration's efforts have resulted in farmers achieving yields of 20-22 bags of maize per hectare, compared to just 2-3 bags without fertilizer.
