Bovi Reflects on Performing After His Mother's Death

Bovi, a well-known Nigerian comedian, recounted his emotional struggles while performing at events during difficult family situations. He recalled how, in 2012, he was in Ilashe, Lagos, attending an event when he received news of his mother's kidnapping in Delta State.

Despite his distress, he continued to entertain guests, stating, “I was just going through the motions.” His mother was rescued hours later. Following her death in January 2016, Bovi faced a dilemma about hosting Ben Bruce's 60th birthday celebration in February.

He questioned whether it would be insensitive to work so soon after losing his mother. Ultimately, he decided to proceed with the event, performing while grappling with his grief, and noted that the audience was unaware of his emotional turmoil, stating, “they didn’t even know I was dying inside.”.
