Nigeria's Security Operations Yield Significant Results in Q3 2026

In the third quarter of 2026, Nigeria's national security environment demonstrated a need for enhanced coordination, intelligence, and public trust. The Armed Forces of Nigeria executed 7,062 security operations, resulting in the neutralization of 1,487 terrorists and insurgents, the arrest of 354 suspects, and the rescue of 777 kidnapped victims.

Additionally, the Nigeria Police Force recorded significant operational gains, arresting 1,334 suspects and rescuing 383 kidnapped victims, while recovering 175 firearms and over 3,790 rounds of ammunition. The Department of State Services (DSS) contributed through intelligence-driven operations that targeted arms trafficking and terrorism.

On July 30, the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons destroyed 1,419 illicit weapons, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of small arms. These developments underscore the necessity of intelligence-sharing and operational coordination among various security institutions to effectively address the complex security challenges facing Nigeria.
