Nigerian Military Reports Major Successes Against Terrorism

In the third quarter of 2026, the Nigerian military reported significant operational achievements, including the killing of 554 terrorists and criminals, the apprehension of 1,333 individuals, and the rescue of 1,736 kidnapped civilians. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Military Operations, disclosed these figures during a press conference in Abuja.
Additionally, 333 terrorists surrendered, and the military recovered 244 arms and 8,160 rounds of ammunition. The Armed Forces of Nigeria conducted operations across various theatres, recording a total of 367 attacks.
Notably, Operation Fansan Yamma experienced the highest number of attacks at 115. The military dismantled 104 illegal refining sites and recovered over 1.6 million litres of stolen petroleum products.
The report indicated fluctuations in operational outcomes, with significant increases in bandits and criminals killed from July to August, while subsequent months saw declines in various operational metrics. Despite these fluctuations, September figures showed continued military activity, including the rescue of 581 civilians and the recovery of additional arms and ammunition.
