National Assembly's Commitment to Peace in Plateau State

During a special security dialogue in Jos, Plateau State, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abass, declared that the National Assembly will not allow Plateau State to descend further into violence. He addressed the ongoing crisis, which has seen thousands killed from 2001 to 2018, and highlighted the devastating attacks that occurred between December 2023 and April 2024, resulting in the destruction of 18,000 houses and the displacement of approximately 80,000 people.

Abass outlined the National Assembly's commitment to enhancing security oversight, prioritizing funding for improved intelligence, and modernizing security infrastructure. He also promised to allocate funds for rebuilding destroyed communities and addressing the trauma of internally displaced persons.

Governor Mutfwang and Deputy Governor Josephin Piyo emphasized the necessity of unity among stakeholders to restore peace and stability in the region, detailing measures taken by the current administration, including deploying drone surveillance technology and refurbishing security vehicles.
