Speaker Abbas Tajudeen Addresses Plateau State Security Crisis

On Tuesday, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen declared that the National Assembly will not allow Plateau State to descend further into crisis. Speaking in Jos, he addressed an ad hoc committee on security during a special dialogue aimed at tackling the root causes of persistent violence in the state.

The conference highlighted the severe impact of violence in Plateau, which has resulted in thousands of deaths and the displacement of 80,000 individuals over the past two decades. Notably, the December 2023 Christmas Eve attack led to the loss of 200 lives and significant property damage.

Tajudeen stressed that the crisis is driven by a convergence of historical grievances, land disputes, and economic marginalization. He outlined legislative interventions to improve security and trust, emphasizing the need for a framework for peaceful coexistence.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other stakeholders participated, underscoring the urgency of addressing the security challenges in Plateau State.
