Tragic Road Crash Claims Lives of Cross River Varsity Students

On Friday night, a tragic road accident occurred along the Calabar-Itu Highway in Cross River State, resulting in the deaths of three students and one staff member from Cross River State University. The incident involved a coaster bus, which was reportedly carrying students returning from an official assignment in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and collided with a truck.

The accident took place around 9:25 PM in Odukpani Local Government Area. The deceased included Sug Solomon Uya, a chemistry student and president of the Faculty of Physical Sciences Student Association, and Mr.

Anthoni Arikpo, a university staff member. The university's vice chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassei, along with the deputy vice chancellor for academics, Professor Stella Mari Okei, visited injured students in various hospitals and expressed deep shock over the incident.

The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the accident and stated that the truck driver fled the scene. Efforts are ongoing to locate the driver, and the police have urged motorists to drive cautiously.
