Local Militias Kill Cows, Three Herders Missing in Plateau

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) reported that three herders went missing and five cows were killed by local militias in Plateau State on Saturday afternoon. The incident took place in the Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area.

MACBAN's chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the attack, describing it as unprovoked and carried out by a group identified as the Irigw militia. The herders were ambushed while grazing their cattle, leading to gunfire that forced them to flee, resulting in the death of the animals.

Babayo emphasized that such attacks threaten the livelihoods of Fulani pastoralists and undermine ongoing peace efforts in the state. He called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, warning that failure to act could exacerbate tensions in the region.

Efforts to contact the state police spokesman for further information were unsuccessful.
