Three Convicted for Social Media Fraud in Kaduna

On February 9, 2026, the Kaduna State High Court convicted three individuals—Aliyu Hassan, Samuel Olamid, and Solomon Joseph Christian—of fraud involving social media platforms Facebook and TikTok. The convicts were found guilty of impersonating foreign citizens to defraud victims, with Hassan impersonating a Brazilian citizen and defrauding a victim of ₦90,000, while Olamid and Christian impersonated U.S. citizens, defrauding victims of ₦150,000.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported that the offenses contravened Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017. Justice Isiaka presided over the case, with the prosecution led by M.U.

Gadaka. The court sentenced each convict to five years in prison or a fine of ₦300,000, along with the forfeiture of items recovered by the federal government, including mobile phones.

The EFCC had previously arrested the convicts in the Agwa Kudend area of Kaduna following credible intelligence linking them to fraudulent internet activities.
