Enugu Police Rescue Three Kidnapped Victims in Operation

On August 18, 2026, the Enugu State Police Command successfully rescued three victims of kidnapping during an operation prompted by a reported carjacking. The operation was conducted by operatives from the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit, with assistance from the Neighbourhood Watch Group and local citizens.

The police received credible intelligence around 1:30 am regarding the abduction of occupants from a Lexus RX350 by armed individuals in Independence Layout. Following a hot pursuit, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, allowing the police to rescue the victims unharmed.

The operation resulted in the recovery of two locally made firearms, ammunition, and other items, including gloves and a ski mask. Enugu State Police Commissioner Mamman Giwa praised the efforts of the police and community members and emphasized the importance of intelligence-led operations in combating violent crimes.
