Enugu Police Arrest 14 Kidnap Suspects, Recover Weapons

The Enugu State Police Command arrested and paraded 14 kidnap suspects involved in various kidnapping operations in and outside the state. Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa announced that among those arrested were two suspects linked to the August 2 kidnapping raid on St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Affa, Udi LGA, who had fled to Port Harcourt.

The arrests were made through intelligence-led operations by the Anti-Kidnapping Violent Crime Response Unit (AK-VCRU). The suspects were apprehended between June and August 2026 across several states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Enugu, Kogi, Nasarawa, Rivers, Kwara, and Taraba.

They confessed to involvement in multiple kidnappings, including significant ransom payments of N5 million, $28,700, and $70,000. The suspects were part of an organized criminal network, aided by local members providing transportation and intelligence.

The investigation revealed that they laundered their criminal proceeds through investments in livestock and properties.
