Police Rescue Three Kidnap Victims in Enugu Operation

On August 18, 2026, operatives from the Enugu State Command's Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) successfully rescued three individuals who had been kidnapped at Independence Layout, Enugu. The operation was conducted around 1:30 a.m. following credible intelligence regarding the abduction of occupants of a Lexus RX350 by armed assailants.

The police, with assistance from the Neighbourhood Watch and local citizens, pursued the suspects to Hillview Road, where the suspects abandoned their vehicle and firearms before fleeing. The victims were rescued unharmed.

The police recovered a locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, a cut-to-size firearm, a live cartridge, gloves, a ski mask, and a mobile phone, all left behind by the suspects. Police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe stated that investigations are ongoing, with a manhunt launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional evidence.
