Nigerian Health Experts Call for Regulation of Fertility Medicine Amid Exploitation Concerns

Nigerian health experts, including Timothy Adewale from the Centre for Health Equity and Justice (CEHEJ) and Abayomi Ajayi, Managing Director of Nordica Fertility Centre, are calling for the regulation of fertility medicine in Nigeria. The lack of laws and policies governing assisted reproductive technologies has led to exploitation, substandard services, health risks, and unethical practices in the fertility industry.

Issues such as underage girls being used as egg donors, financial exploitation, and inadequate monitoring of procedures highlight the urgent need for regulatory oversight. Despite existing ethical guidelines, the absence of enforceable legislation at both the national and state levels has allowed malpractices to persist.
