Northern Senators Demand Urgent Action on State Police Bill

The Northern Senators Forum, chaired by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua of Katsina Central, has called on the Federal Government, through the Presidential Working Group led by the Chief of Staff to the President, and State Governors to expedite the ratification of the State Police Bill. The senators emphasized that decentralized policing is essential for improving response times and intelligence gathering at the grassroots level, especially in light of recent terrorist attacks in Adamawa and Sokoto States that claimed 36 lives.

They expressed condolences to the victims' families and urged local governments to strengthen community vigilante groups as intelligence partners to the police and military. The Forum condemned the attacks in Gaya community, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, and Ungushi village, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which resulted in the deaths of security personnel and innocent worshippers.
