Timi Frank Critiques Tund Ayeni's Bail Conditions

Timi Frank, a political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), criticized the bail conditions imposed on businessman Tund Ayeni by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. Frank described the terms as excessive and stringent, alleging that they were influenced by political motives.

The bail conditions required a bank guarantee of N15 billion and included a court undertaking for the sum to be forfeited to the federal government if Ayeni absconded. Frank expressed surprise at the unusual nature of these conditions compared to those granted to high-profile defendants facing corruption-related charges.

He cited examples of former governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Yahaya Bello, who received less stringent bail terms despite serious allegations. Frank warned that such actions could undermine public trust in the judiciary and called for the National Judicial Council to investigate the circumstances surrounding the bail conditions to protect judicial independence.
