Tinubu Appoints Rilwan Babalola as Power Adviser

On Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Rilwan Lanr Babalola as the Special Adviser on Power and announced the formation of a Presidential Task Force aimed at resetting and restoring Nigeria's power sector. The announcement was made by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Babalola, a former Minister of Power, is expected to leverage his extensive experience and deep understanding of the challenges facing Nigeria's electricity sector. The newly inaugurated task force will operate directly under the presidential mandate, focusing on restoring efficiency and commercial viability within the power sector.

Its responsibilities include reducing technical and commercial losses, strengthening tariffs, improving revenue, and enhancing market integration. The task force is also tasked with promoting power usage across critical sectors to alleviate fiscal pressures on the government and aims to implement a comprehensive reset of the electricity sector's performance.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Babalola's ability to execute this role effectively in line with the administration's agenda to improve electricity supply and overall sector performance in Nigeria.
