Tinubu Deploys 1,000 Guards to Rescue Abducted Students

President Bola Tinubu has authorized the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State to bolster security and improve the capabilities of a specialized rescue unit aimed at freeing abducted schoolchildren and teachers. This decision follows an incident on May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked three schools in the Oriir Local Government Area, taking several pupils and teachers captive.

The attack resulted in the beheading of a mathematics teacher, Michael Oyedokun, and the death of a motorcyclist. A high-powered federal government delegation, including Femi Gbajabiamila, Tinubu's Chief of Staff, and other security leaders, visited the affected community to address the situation.

They assured residents that all necessary resources would be deployed to ensure the safe return of the victims. The delegation also called for caution in rescue operations to avoid further harm to the abducted individuals.
