Tinubu Expands PiCNG to Include Electric Vehicles

On Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the expansion of the mandate for the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) to include electric vehicles (EVs). This initiative aims to coordinate Nigeria's clean mobility strategy, which will cover both gas-driven and electric vehicles nationwide.

The plan includes the continued deployment of compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure, such as mother-daughter stations and integrated refueling units for CNG vehicles. The initiative will also focus on developing and rolling out electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country.

President Tinubu directed the Executive Chairman of PiCNG to establish a coordinated process for the rapid deployment of vehicle conversion kits, ensuring that these kits are accessible to Nigerians at a reasonable cost. Additionally, the initiative will collaborate with CreditCorp Nigeria and relevant financial institutions to design cost-effective financing structures for vehicle conversions, further enhancing the government's agenda for affordable and efficient environmentally responsible mobility.
