Tinubu Expands PiCNG to Include Electric Vehicles

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the expansion of the mandate of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) to include electric vehicles (EVs). This initiative aims to coordinate Nigeria's clean mobility strategy, which encompasses both gas-driven and electric vehicles nationwide.

The plan includes the continued deployment of compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure, such as mother-daughter stations and integrated refueling units for CNG vehicles. Furthermore, the initiative will focus on developing and rolling out EV charging infrastructure across the country.

To ensure affordability, the government will work with CreditCorp Nigeria and relevant financial institutions to design cost-effective financing structures for vehicle conversion kits, making them accessible to Nigerians without imposing a financial burden. Additionally, President Tinubu has directed the immediate establishment of a coordinating process for the rapid deployment of vehicle conversion kits and the expansion of mobile refueling units to enhance access to CNG infrastructure.
