Tinubu Orders 100,000 CNG Kits Deployment in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate deployment of 100,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) kits within the next two to three weeks to alleviate the impact of rising petrol and diesel costs in Nigeria. This initiative was disclosed by Ismaeel Ahm, the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, during a meeting at the Presidential State House in Abuja.

The directive aims to provide Nigerians with access to CNG as a cheaper alternative to traditional fuels, which are currently 60-70% more expensive. The deployment will focus on converting vehicles and tricycles to CNG, with an emphasis on fast-tracking the development of necessary infrastructure, including refueling stations and electric vehicle charging points, particularly in the northern corridor.

The initiative also includes partnerships with local manufacturers and the Rural Electrification Agency to establish solar-powered charging stations. This move is part of a broader strategy to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel following the removal of fuel subsidies.
