Tinubu Approves N3.6bn for Tailors' Skills Program

President Bola Tinubu has approved a funding of N3.6 billion to support the tailoring industry under the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) skills program. This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria's informal sector, create jobs, and enhance the global competitiveness of local artisans.

Afiz Ogun, the Director General of ITF, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a nationwide screening for applicants in the 2026 edition of the program. The screening exercise aims to ensure that genuine artisans benefit from the initiative, which is expected to assist 200,000 artisans nationwide.

The program, set to launch in 2024, will provide training and certification for artisans, enabling them to engage in skilled trades with verified credentials. Ogun emphasized that the initiative would also include a business incubation program, providing participants with industrial-grade equipment and long-term mentorship to ensure sustainable business practices.

The program aims to reduce unemployment and improve service quality in Nigeria's informal economy.
