Defence Minister Reveals Soldiers' Salary Increase to N100,000

On Monday, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), the Minister of Defence, revealed that he led the initiative to increase the salaries of Nigerian soldiers from N49,000 to N100,000 while serving as Chief of Defence Staff.

This announcement was made during a financial empowerment workshop for military families at Lungi Barracks in Abuja. Musa stated that the salary increase was aimed at enhancing the welfare of troops in recognition of their sacrifices.

He mentioned ongoing discussions with President Bola Tinubu to secure further salary increases for military personnel, expressing confidence that the President would support these efforts. Musa also highlighted the government's commitment to improving the welfare of military families, noting that strengthening their economic resilience would allow service members to focus on their duties.

This comes amid calls from military veterans for a proposed minimum salary of N250,000 for the least-paid soldiers, reflecting current economic conditions.
