Tinubu Upgrades Nasarawa Polytechnic to Specialized University

President Bola Tinubu approved the upgrade of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa to a specialized university dedicated to mining engineering technology. This decision, announced in a statement by his special adviser on information strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is part of efforts to strengthen technical education and boost Nigeria's solid mineral sector.

The approval follows a proposal from Senator Ahm Wadada Aliyu, who represents the Nasarawa West Senatorial District, advocating for the establishment of a specialized institution that leverages the state's comparative advantages in the solid mineral sector. The new university will focus on providing specialized education and research in mining engineering, mineral processing, metallurgy, and emerging technologies, aiming to produce a skilled workforce necessary for advancing the nation's mineral resources sustainably.

The administration's commitment to aligning tertiary education with national development priorities is underscored in this initiative, which also includes directives for relevant agencies to begin the necessary processes for implementation.
