Tinubu Upgrades Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa to University

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the transformation of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa into a Specialized University dedicated to mining engineering. This decision follows a proposal from Senator Aliyu Wadada, representing the Nasarawa West Senatorial District.

The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Strategic Communications. The new institution will focus on teaching, research, and innovation in mining engineering, mineral processing, metallurgy, and emerging technologies.

This upgrade is part of Tinubu's broader reform agenda to align higher education with national economic priorities and address the manpower needs of Nigeria's mining sector. The President has directed the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission to commence the necessary legal and regulatory processes for the implementation of this upgrade.

The establishment of this specialized institution is expected to play a strategic role in producing professionals capable of advancing value addition in the solid minerals sector and promoting industrial innovation.
