Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for N100.5bn Airport Reimbursement
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to approve a reimbursement of N100,509,017,234.55 for the Damaturu airport project. In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Tinubu sought legislative support for the Debt Management Office (DMO) to establish and issue a promissory note programme.
This request follows the Federal Executive Council's approval during its second extraordinary meeting on May 23, 2023, for the Federal Government to take over the airport and reimburse the associated project costs. The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has reviewed the project and cleared the recommended reimbursement amount.
Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite their consideration of the request. After the letter was read in the Senate, it was referred to the relevant committee for further legislative scrutiny.
The outcome of this legislative process will determine the timeline for settling the financial commitment with Yobe State.
