Tinubu Seeks Court Order to Block Release of FBI Records

President Bola Tinubu has filed a response in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, urging the court to reject a motion for summary judgment by Aaron Greenspan, founder of PlainSite, which seeks the release of investigative records allegedly concerning him. Tinubu's legal team argues that these documents are protected under US privacy law and should remain redacted.

Greenspan had filed 12 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests from 2022 to 2023 regarding a Chicago gang network from the early 1990s, naming Tinubu along with others. In April 2025, Judge Beryl Howell ruled that the FBI and DEA had not justified their refusals to disclose records, leading to the production of thousands of documents, some redacted.

Tinubu's lawyers contend that FOIA is not intended to provide access to personal information about individuals and that the public interest in disclosure does not meet legal standards. They also differentiated between the president's interest in the existence of an investigation and the contents of investigative files.
