Tinubu's Lawyers Seek to Block FBI, DEA Records Release

Lawyers representing President Bola Tinubu have filed a motion in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, urging the court to deny transparency activist Aaron Greenspan's request for additional records concerning Tinubu.

The filing, dated August 28, 2026, argues that the documents pertain to Tinubu's private life before his political career and are protected under privacy laws. The case, Greenspan v.

Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, involves Freedom of Information Act requests for records related to historical investigations of Tinubu, including FBI records from 1992 and 1993.

Tinubu's legal team contends that the information sought does not illuminate the performance of U.S. agencies and releasing it would invade the privacy of individuals identified in the records. They emphasize that the records are three decades old and pertain to events when Tinubu was a student, asserting that his election to public office does not eliminate his privacy rights.

They rely on FOIA Exemption 7(C) and the Privacy Act to support their case.
