Tinubu Extends Ban on Raw Shea Nut Exports to 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the ban on the export of raw shea nuts, reaffirming his administration's commitment to strengthening local industry and boosting value addition within Nigeria's shea sector. This renewed restriction will take effect from February 26, 2026, to February 25, 2027.

The ban aims to encourage domestic processing, support small-scale producers, and enhance job creation across the shea nut value chain. Additionally, the ban seeks to deepen processing capacity within Nigeria and promote the livelihoods of shea-producing communities.

To further these objectives, President Tinubu has authorized the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the Presidential Food Security Coordinating Unit to implement a unified evidence-based national framework that aligns industrial, trade, and investment priorities across the shea nut value chain. The president also approved the adoption of an export framework to establish the Nigerian Commodity Exchange and withdrew waivers allowing direct export of raw shea nuts outside this framework.
