Tinubu Congratulates Ekiti Student on Spelling Bee Win

President Bola Tinubu congratulated 14-year-old Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreof, a student at St. Lawrence Metropolitan College in Ado Ekiti, for emerging as the 2026 African Spelling Bee champion in the junior category.

Oreof triumphed over contestants from 20 African countries during the competition held in Harare, Zimbabwe. In a statement released on Thursday by Tinubu's special adviser on strategic communications, Bayo Onanuga, it was noted that Oreof earned a $5,000 educational scholarship for her victory.

Tinubu described her achievement as a reflection of the importance of investing in education and literacy for youth development, stating that it serves as an inspiration for millions of young Nigerians to pursue academic excellence. He also acknowledged Oreof's previous strong performances, including placing second in the 2023 MTN Spelling Bee and finishing fifth in the 2024 Ekiti State Spelling Bee.

The Ekiti State government has pledged to honor Oreof with a cash reward and sponsorship for the upcoming World Spelling Bee Championship in China.
