Tinubu Seeks Confirmation of Olatunji Disu as IGP

President Bola Tinubu convened the Nigeria Police Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to seek confirmation for Olatunji Disu as the Inspector General of Police (IGP). This meeting was prompted by the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The council's confirmation process is expected to be forwarded to the Senate for final approval, in line with constitutional statutory provisions. Attendees at the meeting included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam, and state governors including Nyesom Wike.

The Nigeria Police Council, established under the Police Act of 2020, plays a strategic oversight role in police matters, including advising the President on internal security, police administration, budget, and senior appointments within the police force.
