Tinubu to Convene Police Council for Disu's Appointment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will convene the Police Council today to formally consider the appointment of Tunji Disu as the new Inspector General of Police. This meeting is in compliance with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, which mandates the Police Council to consider appointments forwarded by the President for Senate confirmation.

The announcement follows the resignation of former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, last Tuesday. Tunji Disu, who is 59 years old, has served in various capacities within the Nigeria Police Force since joining on May 18, 1992.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in English Education from Lagos State University and a Master's degree in Public Administration, Criminology, and Security Legal Psychology. The Police Council, chaired by the President and comprising 36 state governors and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, is expected to finalize the appointment during this session.
