Tinubu Launches Welfare Fund for Armed Forces Personnel

On October 29, 2023, President Bola Tinubu announced the creation of a new welfare fund dedicated to supporting members of Nigeria's armed forces who have been injured in the line of duty, as well as the families of fallen heroes. This initiative coincided with his 74th birthday and includes a personal commitment from Tinubu to donate his salaries from June 2023 to seed the fund.

The fund will be established in a special account under the Federal Government and aims to provide targeted support to injured service members, widows, and children who have lost their lives while serving the country. Tinubu emphasized the nation's obligation to care for the families of those who have made sacrifices for national peace and security.

He called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, and the private sector to support this initiative. The announcement was made during a prayer session at a mosque in Abuja, attended by various religious leaders and political figures.
