Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu as Acting IGP Ahead of Retirement

On a significant day for Nigeria's security leadership, President Bola Tinubu decorated Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector General of Police during a ceremony at the State House in Abuja at 4 PM. This appointment comes just 48 days before Disu's scheduled retirement on April 13, 2026, when he would reach the mandatory retirement age of 60.

However, an amendment to the police act allows for a fixed four-year tenure for the Inspector General of Police, meaning Disu will remain in office until 2030. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.

The appointment follows the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, who reportedly submitted his resignation letter to the President on Tuesday, citing family matters that require his full attention. This transition marks a new phase in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force amid ongoing security challenges across the country.
