Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu as Acting IGP in Abuja

On a recent date, President Bola Tinubu officially decorated Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector General of Police during a ceremony held at the State House in Abuja. This event followed Disu's swearing-in and was attended by high-ranking government and security officials, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and the immediate past IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

Tinubu pinned the new insignia on Disu's uniform and commended the outgoing IGP Egbetokun for his service to the nation. Disu's appointment is significant as it comes just 48 days before his scheduled retirement on April 13, 2026, when he will reach the mandatory retirement age of 60.

However, an amendment to the Police Act allows the Inspector General of Police to serve a four-year tenure regardless of age. Disu previously served as an Assistant Inspector General of Police and held strategic roles, including Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
