Tinubu Criticized for Airport Address After Plateau Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has come under fire for addressing the recent deadly attack in Plateau State from Yakubu Gowon Airport rather than visiting Jos, the state capital. The attack, which occurred approximately 40 minutes from the airport, resulted in 28 fatalities and 22 injuries.

Upon arriving at the airport on Thursday, Tinubu met with local stakeholders and assured residents of government support for victims and efforts to restore peace. However, many Nigerians expressed disappointment that he did not travel to Jos to personally assess the situation or visit the attack site.

Critics on social media, including lawyer Ridwan Ok, highlighted that the president's decision to address the crisis from the airport rather than engaging directly with victims was inadequate. Tinubu's quick departure from the airport, where he only spent about 10 minutes, further fueled public debate regarding the expectations of national leadership in response to security crises and humanitarian tragedies across Nigeria.
