Tinubu Commends Nigeria's Customs Modernisation Project

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu welcomed the recognition of Nigeria’s customs modernization program and commended the selection of AfriTrade CMP Limited, a subsidiary of Bergmans Security Consultant and Supplies Limited, for a 20-year, multi-billion-dollar Customs Modernisation Project. This initiative aims to enhance customs processes, cargo tracking, border management, and trade data exchange across African nations.

Tinubu stated that this development validates Nigeria's ability to create homegrown solutions for the African market. He emphasized the need for African integration and the role of Nigerian institutions in building necessary technology and infrastructure.

AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene, visiting Abuja, acknowledged Nigeria's Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, as a model for Africa. Following a visit to the Nigeria Service headquarters, Senator Jibrin Isah expressed that his committee members would advocate for the system.

B’Odogwu, piloted in October 2024, is central to Nigeria's customs modernization efforts.
