Tinubu Hails Oyebanji's Ekiti Re-election as Mandate for Stability

President Bola Tinubu has commended Ekiti State Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji following his successful re-election bid on Saturday. In a statement released on Sunday through his special adviser on information strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu characterised the electoral outcome as a demonstration of public trust in the governor's approach to governance centred on the welfare of residents.

Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes, defeating his closest competitor and becoming the first governor in Ekiti's history to win consecutive terms. Tinubu's message highlighted the peaceful and orderly nature of the election process, noting that the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission maintained law and order throughout the voting period.

The President urged Oyebanji to maintain a collaborative approach with the people of Ekiti as he enters his second term, emphasising the importance of carrying constituents along in his administration's decisions. Tinubu also commended the INEC and security forces for their role in ensuring the election met standards of credibility and fairness.

Tinubu's endorsement comes ahead of upcoming gubernatorial elections in Osun State scheduled for August 2027, as well as the general elections planned for the following year. The President's statement reflects an administration position that Oyebanji's victory represents voter validation of the ruling All Progressives Congress's approach to governance and institutional stability at the state level.
