Wike Defends Tinubu's Political Strategy Ahead of 2027

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, defended President Bola Tinubu's political approach as the 2027 general elections approach. During a monthly media parley, Wike stated that it is unreasonable to expect a sitting president to assist rival parties or politicians aiming to unseat him.

He responded to criticisms that the Federal Government is attempting to intimidate or weaken opposition parties, arguing that every political actor seeks to gain an advantage. Wike emphasized, “In politics, it is not my duty to strengthen my opponent.” His comments followed President Tinubu's declaration of being prepared for a fierce political contest, stating he would not make it easy for his opponents.

Tinubu, while addressing members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is neutral and has not intimidated any political actor, attributing complaints from opposition politicians to their internal challenges.
