Tinubu Inherits N13trn Debt, 268 Road Projects - Umahi

On Monday, during an inspection tour of infrastructure projects in southeastern Nigeria, Minister David Umahi revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited a debt of N13 trillion along with 268 ongoing road projects as of May 29, 2023. Umahi noted that the current administration is taking decisive steps to revive abandoned projects and initiate new ones across Nigeria.

He highlighted the deplorable state of the nation's road infrastructure, stating that motorists previously could not travel for an hour without encountering bad road conditions. However, he expressed optimism that the situation is gradually improving due to ongoing interventions.

Umahi mentioned that the government remains committed to delivering durable road and bridge infrastructure nationwide to ease transportation challenges. He also provided updates on specific projects, including the reopening of a 15-kilometer stretch of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by the end of March 2026, aimed at alleviating congestion and boosting economic activity in the region.
