Tinubu Mourns Ex-Super Eagles Star Henry Nwosu

President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences on the passing of former Super Eagles midfielder Henry Onyemanze Nwosu, who died on Saturday at the age of 62. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu joined the Nigerian football community in mourning the late football legend.

He described Nwosu as an exceptionally skilled player whose artistry on the pitch left a lasting impact on the game. The statement highlighted Nwosu's early brilliance with the national team, particularly as part of the Green Eagles squad that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations.

Tinubu acknowledged Nwosu's long service to the national team, noting his contributions to the development of football in Nigeria over several decades, including participation in subsequent AFCON tournaments in 1982, 1984, and 1988. The president concluded by praising Nwosu's legacy and offering comfort to his family.

Nwosu's death was announced by former teammate Segun Odegbami, who revealed that he had spent five days in intensive care at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
