Nigerian Football Legend Henry Nwosu Dies at 62

Henry Nwosu, a former member of Nigeria's national football team and a key player in the country's first Africa Cup of Nations victory in 1980, has passed away at the age of 62. He died in a Lagos hospital on Saturday morning, prompting an outpouring of tributes from the football community.

Kabiru Amadu, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, expressed deep sorrow over Nwosu's loss, describing him as a gifted player who significantly contributed to Nigerian football. Nwosu was known for his creative dribbling and vision in midfield, becoming the youngest member of the Nigerian team at just 17 years old.

He played crucial roles in subsequent Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 1984 and 1988. After retiring from professional football, Nwosu remained involved in the sport as a coach, contributing to the development of football in Nigeria.

His death follows the recent passing of Adegboy Onigbind, the former technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation, marking a painful period for Nigerian football.
