Tinubu Considers Visa-Free Deal with Rwanda

On Wednesday, May 14, 2023, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria expressed a willingness to consider a reciprocal visa-free arrangement with Rwanda, which currently offers Nigerian citizens a 30-day visa-free status. This discussion took place during Tinubu's visit to Kigali for the Africa CEO Forum, where he met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

A statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga highlighted the importance of revitalizing the Joint Permanent Ministerial Commission (JPMC), originally established in 2021, as a platform to advance shared objectives. The two leaders discussed various areas of cooperation, including tourism, anti-corruption, and drug trafficking.

Tinubu emphasized Nigeria's commitment to inter-African integration and mutual respect, while both leaders exchanged ideas on operationalizing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). They reaffirmed their support for the agreement and discussed the establishment of an air cargo corridor to facilitate greater export opportunities for Nigerian businesses across Africa.
