Tinubu Appoints Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Foreign Minister

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu announced the appointment of Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria's new Minister of Foreign Affairs, succeeding Yusuf Tuggar, who resigned in anticipation of political maneuvers ahead of the 2027 elections. Tinubu also nominated Sola Enikanolaiy as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.

The presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, stated that these appointments aim to strengthen Nigeria's diplomatic posture and align foreign policy with the administration's economic priorities. Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a veteran diplomat and former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to lead Nigeria's external relations during a time when the administration is focusing on economic diplomacy and regional stability.

The statement emphasized her extensive experience in international affairs and her deep understanding of Nigeria's engagement with the global community. Enikanolaiy, who previously served as a senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs, also brings significant diplomatic experience from various international postings.
