Tinubu Mourns Ex-Super Eagles Coach Adegboye Onigbinde

President Bola Tinubu issued a statement on Tuesday expressing his condolences following the death of High Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, the former head coach of Nigeria's national football team, the Super Eagles, who passed away at the age of 88. Tinubu acknowledged Onigbinde's significant contributions to Nigerian football, particularly his role as the first indigenous coach of the Super Eagles in 1982.

He commended Onigbinde's efforts in developing grassroots football and strengthening football administration in Nigeria. The president recognized Onigbinde's leadership during the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations and his guidance of the team at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and Korea.

Tinubu emphasized Onigbinde's discipline, integrity, foresight, and passion for the game, stating that he would be remembered for his dedication to football development. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) also mourned Onigbinde, describing him as a great man who served Nigerian football wholeheartedly.
